Why do intelligent people keep making bad decisions?

⚽️. WHY DO INTELLIGENT PEOPLE KEEP MAKING STUPID DECISIONS? – THE 8 DEADLY SINS IN FOOTBALL AND LEADERSHIP – AND HOW TO AVOID THEM ⚽️

No Business Like Football Business?
As millions watch the FIFA World Cup, football once again reminds us that success is shaped by far more than tactics and talent alone.

So, what if …

  • What if almost everything football believes about leadership is wrong?
  • Why do intelligent people keep making stupid decisions in football?
  • If football is a business, why isn’t it run like one?
  • Why are football’s biggest problems rarely about football?
  • Why do clubs spend more time scouting players than selecting leaders?
  • Why do clubs spend millions correcting yesterday’s mistakes instead of preventing tomorrow’s?

Because eleven years ago, Jon Morten and I began researching what eventually became our book on leadership, using football as our laboratory.

At first, we thought we were writing about football.

Gradually, we realised we were really writing about leadership, decision-making and human behaviour under pressure.

As our research progressed, a handful of questions kept returning. They became impossible to ignore.

Those questions led us to interview coaches, analyse clubs from around the world, explore leadership research and challenge many of the assumptions that have shaped football for decades.

The questions drew us in. The answers surprised us.
